Expand the equation, we get y = 2(x²+2x-24)

Re-organize the terms inside the parenthesis, we get

y = 2[(x+1/2)²-1/2 -48] = 2(x+1/2)² - 97/2

This is an open down parabola equation withe vertex at (- 1/2, - 97/2)
