1)   A 3 x 5 table is considered to test the association of two variables having 3 and 5 categories respectively. A Chi-square test statistic with value 19.0 was obtained. What is the degrees of freedom associated with this test?

 

2)   A 3 x 5 table is considered to test the association of two variables having 3 and 5 categories respectively. A Chi-square test statistic equal to 19.0 was obtained. The p-value for a non-directional test is then:

 

Answer: between 0.01 and 0.02 (Check please!)

1. In a chi-squared test the degrees of freedom is (number of rows-1)x(number of columns-1) so in this case 2x4=8.

 

2. I believe your answer is a uni-directional calculation. Non-directional would be between .005 and .01.
