A snowstorm dumped 3 inches of snow in a 2-hour period. At this rate, how many inches would you expect in 5 hours?

This was another confusing question... I dont understand like how to actually do it

initial equation is:  3 inches/2 hours

So, 3"/2 hr = x"/5

then, (3 x 5) =  2x

then,    15    =  2x

then,    7.5   =  x

 

so if 3 inches falls in 2 hrs, then 7.5 inches fall in 5 hours.
