To "solve" means to find the value of x. That means that you must isolate x on one side of an equation and a constant value on the other side.
(x+1) / x = 6 [this has divide, so multiply (opposite operation) both sides by x]
x + 1 = 6x [this has addition, so subtract (opposite operation) 1 from both sides]
x = 6x - 1 [to get x on left side, subtract 6x from both sides]
-5x = -1 [unary minus; divide both sides by -5]
x = 1/5
Checking (very important):
Is ((1/5)+1 ) / (1/5) = 6 ?
(1/5 + 5/5) / (1/5) = 6 ?
(6/5) / (1/5) = 6 ?
(6/5) * (5/1) = 6 ?
6 = 6 ? yes
