AP Physics... acceleration and direction confusion...

If there was a cart rolling in the negative x direction, but it had a positive acceleration, would it be speeding up or slowing down?

Positive acceleration points in the rightward direction.  The cart is moving in the negative direction, which is leftward.  The acceleration is applied in the opposite direction of the cart's motion.  Because of this, the cart would be slowing down.
