You would have to look at several factors,
I can give a few pointers to begin:
Start from looking at the location of Chicago, how is it situated in between Northern-Canada and South US .
Determine, how Northern cold climate is affecting the region vs warmer climate moving from the South.
Causal effect of the wind speeds, can be a cue to determine the sandwich effect and climate change.
Is there any air stagnation in the region or the ozone effect?
Deforestation near by, and change in the water body climate?
Increase in air pollution due to more vehicles or industrialization?
Increase in air & water contamination affecting the ecosystem near by?
