I have a garden in my back yard. The area of the garden is 48 square feet. The length of the garden is 2 more than the width. Find the dimensions of the garden.
Area = length times width(lw)
Let W = width and then length = W + 2
Area = 48 The equation will be
W(W + 2) = 48 distribute
W2 + 2W = 48 subtract 48 from both sides
W2 + 2W - 48 = 0
This is a quadratic equation.
