I need help determining the smallest degree a function can have given the graph.

Count the number of turning points the graph has.  A turning point is a place where the graph changes direction from increasing to decreasing or vice versa.  If the graph of a polynomial has N turning points then the degree of the polynomial must be at least (N+1).
