Mixture of a solution

A chemist wants to make 75 liters of 16% acid solution.  He is going to make it by mixing a 10% acid solution and a 25% acid solution.  How many liters of each will he need?

Answer 1

Let x = amount of 10% solution

Therefore, 75 - x = 25% solution

 

Thus,

 

(x)(.10) + (75 - x)(.25) = (75)(.16)

 

.1x + 18.75 - .25x = 12

 

- .15x = - 6.75

 

x = 45 liters

 

75 - x = 30 liters
