If the remaining ration was 5:3, then Paul got 5/8 and Theresa got 3/8. You get the denominator by adding the two amounts together.
There was 2/3 left which was divided between Paul and Theresa, so we multiply their shares by the 2/3 that was left. We then find a common denominator for all three, which turns out to be 24.
Paul 5/8 of 2/3 = 10/24
Theresa 3/8 of 2/3 = 6/24
Anne got 1/3 = 8/24
We can then reduce all three shares
Paul 5/12
Theresa 1/4
Anne 1/3
Hope this helps, Kevin!
