First pick variables to represent the two types of cameras.
For ease of identifying lets let
v = video camera cost
d = digital camera cost
Since the cost of 5 digital cameras and 3 video camers = 3213
we can set up the following equation.
5d + 3v = 3213
Each video camera is (or equals) 4 times as much as a digital camera so:
v = 4d
Substitute 4d in place of v in the first equation.
5d + 3(4d) = 3213
5d + 12d = 3213
17d = 3213
d = 3213/17
d = $189
v = 4d = 4(189) = $756
1 digital camera costs $189
1 video camera costs $756
Check: 5d + 3v = 3213
5(189) + 3(756) = 3213
945 + 2268 = 3213
3213 = 3213
