The area of the numbered triangle on a shuffle board court is
48 ft2.
Its height is 4 feet more than the length of the base. Find the length of the base and the height.

Area = 1/2(base)(height)

 

Let b = base, height = b+4 and Area = 48

 

Therefore:

 

48 = 1/2(b)(B+4)

 

b² +4b - 96 = 0

 

(b+12)(b-8)

 

b= -12 or 8, eliminate the negative number so b=8 and the height = 12
