( 1/ 2X) = 12

Multiply both sides by 2X

(1/ 2X)( 2X) = 12 ( 2X)

   1 = 24 X

   X = 1/24

 \When 2 fractions are equal, this is called proportion

    We can multiply the numerator and denominator by same number and maintain the equality of fraction.

 1/ 2 = (1*2) / ( 2* 2) =( 1*3) / ( 2* 3 ) ............ ( 1* 50 ) / ( 2* 50)

 By the same token if 2 fractions are equal if and only if its numerator of the 2nd fraction has to be multiplied by the same number as denominator of the 2nd fraction by denominator of first.
         So:    if  1/2 = x/ 4

                  can divide 4 by 2   4/2 = 2

                    then multiply 1* 2 = 2 is the answer.

                  We say 1 to 2  is the same as 2 to 4.

      WE use all these principles, in solving equations of fraction:

         1/ 2 = X /4

       W e use cross Multiplication to get rid of the fractions:

          1/2 = X/ 4    ,     2X = 4       X = 4/2

  Note that cross Multiplication is nothing more that Multiplying both sides of an equation by the same numbers. Here another example

 ( X -3 ) /4 =X /5

5 ( X - 3 ) = 4X        Result of cross multiplication.

   5X - 15 = 4X

    5X - 4X = 15

       X= 15
