c^2+9c+14=0. Use the quadratic equation which is c = [ -b ± sqrt(b^2 - 4ac) ] / 2a.
A=1. B=9. C=14. Plug everything into the equation.
c = [ -9 ± sqrt(9^2 - 4(1)(14)) ] / 2(1).
c = [ -9 ± sqrt(81 - 56) ] / 2
c = [ -9 ± sqrt(25) ] / 2
c = [ -9 ± 5 ] / 2
c= -9+5 which equals -4, divide -4 by 2 which is -2.
c=-2
c= -9-5 which equals -14, divide it by 2 which is -7
c=-7
So the two answers from using the quadratic equation are c= -2 and -7.
