A company's monthly cost C, in dollars, for storing X surplus units of a product is C=1200+2.15X.

What is the number of surplus units that can be stored for a monthly cost of $3200?

If c is the cost, and the cost is 3200, then:

 

3200=1200+2.15x

 

Get the variable (x) by itself.  Subtract 1200 from both sides.

 

2000=2.15x

 

Divide both sides by 2.15, to get x by itself.

 

2000 divided by 2.15 equals 930.23

 

x=930.23
