The scene is very significant for the rest of the plot, because it is the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time, show interest in each other, and seal their fates.
Romeo compares Juliet's physical characteristics to completing a religious ritual, but also describing them in a sexual manner. Her hands and lips pray, but they also can touch Romeo or anyone else in a sexual nature.
He also is stating that they need to be quiet for fear of getting caught, and being in trouble with their respective families.
