Some students, teachers, and parents are going on a field trip to an art museum. There are 56 students, s, going on the trip. Each group of 8 students will have a parent or a teacher as an adult group leader. use the formula p= s/8 +s to find the total number of people, p, going on the trip.

Answer 1

if 56 students are divided into group of 8 students, then the number of group=56/8=7

hence the total number of group leaders, either a teacher or a parent, is =7

Hence total number of people, p= (total number of students) + (total number of leaders)

                                              =56+7

                                              = (total number of leaders) +(total number of students)

                                              = s/8 + s ............... since the total number of students= s=56 (given)

                                              =56/8+56

                                              = 7+56

                                              =63

 

Hence total number of people is 63.

56 students / 8 per group = 7 groups.

Each group includes 1 Adult or Teacher

Now each group contains 8 students + 1 Adult = 9 x 7 groups - 63 people
