the question includes part of the answer already. we need the the formula to be in y=m*x+b format in order to find the right slope to make it parrallel. From the question we can see that the solution has to have m=3 in order for our answer to be parallel.
Now all that's left is to find B
lets put our point (2,5) into our formula with m=3.
Y=m*x+b
5=3*2+b
order of operations. Multiply and divide
5=6 + b
combine like terms
5-6 = 6 - 6 + b
-1 = b
A parallel line to y=3x + 2 that goes through point (2,5) is
y=3x - 1
