The cost of a bracelet and a watch is 250$ . find the price of each item if the bracelet is 4 times as much as the watch (math problem)

I'm a bit confused on how to do and a don't know how to do it.

Patrick,  Let x=watch and 4x=bracelet.   The watch and bracelet together =$250.  So,  4x + x=$250;  Combine like terms:  5x=$250;  Divide both sides by 5;  x=$50 which is the price of the watch and 4(50)=$200 which is the price of the bracelet.  Check:  5(50)=250;  250=250

say b is bracelet and w is watch,

 

b+w=250

b=4w

 

now find b and w. You can substitute the 2nd equation in the first to get the value of watch
