x=-2 is not a zero of this polynomial and x+2 is not a factor of this polynomial because any zero of this polynomial must be a factor of 5 and -2 is not a factor of 5; the factors of 5 are 5, -5, 1, and -1

 

the advantage is that all you have to do is look at 5 and determine all of 5s factors and you can see that -2 is not one of them instead of doing all of the arithmetic and finding out that f(-2)≠0
