In pre-algebra, I am given the following problem:

 

The forecast calls for a 35% chance of rain.

a) What is the probability it will rain?

b) What are the odds it will rain?

probability is the number of success divided by the total number of occurrences.

A 35% chance of rain means for 35 out of 100 forecasts it shall rain.

 

P = 35/100

P = 7/20

 

Odd is the ratio of the successes to the non-successes.

 

O = 35/65

O = 7/13
