The sum of three numbers Consecutive even numbers is 102. what is the smallest of the three numbers

I don't understand this I got it from my 7th grade math teacher and I really need help we are currently working on one step and two step equations and I am still a little confused

Let the fist consecutive number be x, the second one must be x+2 and the third would be x+4.  Therefore:

 

x + (x+2) + (x+4) = 102  and solve for x

 

3x + 6 = 102

 

3x = 96

 

x = 32

 

The three numbers are 32, 34 and 36.
