Let the apprentice makes $x per hour hence the plumber makes $(x+4.5) per hour

for 1 hour of combined work they make = $(2x+4.5)

for 8 hours of combined work they make =$ (8(2x+4.5)) = $(16x+36) = $372 .... given

=>16x=372-36 ............. subtracting 36 from both sides

=>16x=336

=>x=21 ...... dividing both sides by 16

Hence the apprentice makes $21 per hour while the plumber makes $25.5 per hour.
