To change units, we use the Multiplicative Identity (that is, 1) to change the units without changing the value.  We can multiply by 1 without changing the value.
 
The snail crawls at:
      5.0 cm/min
      (5.0 cm/min)*(1 min/ 60 sec)        [that gets cm/sec, because min cancel out]
      (5.0 cm/min)*(1 min/ 60 sec)*(1 in / 2.54 cm)*(1 ft / 12 in)
      0.0027  ft/sec   (rounded)
