Two angles are said to be complementary if their sum is 90 degrees. Suppose that you have two complementary angles and the second angle is 6 degrees larger than two times the measure of the first angle. Find the angles.

Let x = measure of first angle

 

Then, 2x+6 = measure of the second angle

 

Since the angles are complementary, the sum of their measures is 90°.

 

So, x + (2x+6) = 90

 

            3x + 6 = 90

 

                  3x = 84

 

                   x = 28°

 

The angles have measure 28° and 62°
