This is stumping me

 Parking in a student law cost one dollar for the first half hour and $1.75 for each hour thereafter.  A partial hours charge the same as a full hour.  What is the longest time that a student can park in the slot for $9?

h represents number of hours after the first.

 

1 + 1.75h ≤ 9         subtract 1 form both sides

1.75h ≤ 8                divided both sides by 1.75

h ≤ 4.57

 

You could park for 5 hours.
