An object moves 20 meters in 3 seconds. if it was moving 2 m/s to the left to begin with, how fast was it moving afterwards?

Find the speed when it moves 20 meters in 3 seconds.

 

Speed = 20 m / 3 s = 6.67 m/s

 

We assume the direction of this speed is toward the right.  Since we have 2 speeds going in opposite directions,

 

6.67 m/s - 2 m/s = 4.67 m/s

 

 

The speed afterwards is 4.67 m/s.
