cell phone company charges a monthly fee of $10 for the first 1000 text messages and 10 cents for each additional text message. Miriam's bill for text messages for the month of June is $38.50. How many text messages did she send that month?

Answer 1

First 1000 text cost her,   $10.00

that means she pays    $28.50 on text message @ 10  cent per message.

 

so # of message she pays 10 cent on is     $28.50  / 10 cent  

                                                        = @28.50 / .10 cent

                                                          = 285 messages

 

So, total messages  = 1000  + 285 =   1285 messages
