Finding perimeter of a rectangle

The perimeter of a triangle i P=2L+2W, where L is the length of the rectangle and W is the width. Find the perimeter of the rectangle if its length is 5 feet more than its width and the width is 7 feet.

P=2L+2W  is the perimeter of a rectangle, not a triangle.  A minor mix up.

 

 

If the width is 7 feet, then the length is 12 feet.  Plug in these numbers into the formula for perimeter.

 

P = 2L + 2W

 

 

We can factor out a 2.

 

P = 2(L + W)

P = 2(7 + 12)

P = 2 * 19

P = 38

 

The perimeter is 38 feet.
