Hi Valeria,
Let's begin by finding out the cost of the rug if Marc gave a deposit of 30% of the cost:
30% = 0.30
x = cost of the rug
(0.30)(x) = 75
0.3x = 75
x = 75/0.3
x = $250 (cost of the rug)
So if Marc put down a $75 deposit and the cost of the rug is $250 then the amount he still owes is the difference between these two amounts:
Amount Owed = $250 - $75
Amount Owed = $175
This was a two-step solution:
1. Find the cost of the rug based upon the percentage amount deposited.
2. Find the amount owed based upon the difference between the cost and the deposit.
