Hello,
Here is a simple solution. Let's assume that the cost of the sandwich is x and cost of the drink is y. The following system of two linear equations will provide a solution for both unknown variables x and y:
x+y=4.25
x-y=1.75
This can be easily solved either manually, or using online System of Linear Equations Solver (http://examn8.com/SystemOfEquations.aspx)
The answer is:
x= 3 (cost of the sandwich)
y=1.25 (cost of the drink)
Hope this will help.
