Let's begin by finding the average value of all 3 rings, which will be the equal value that each sister is to receive:

    Average (Equal) Value = (1200 + 260 + 160) / 3

    Average (Equal) Value = 1620 / 3

    Average (Equal Value) = $540

 

Now we'll assign each sister a ring and determine the compensation for each sister whose ring is below the value of $540:

 

    Sister #1:  gets $1200 ring - $660 to sisters

                    (1200 - 660 = $540)

 

    Sister #2:  get $260 ring + $280 from Sister #1

                    (260 + 280 = $540)

 

    Sister #3:  gets $160 + $380 from Sister #1

                    (160 + 380 = $540)

 

This problem was solved by applying the concept of
