The domain is the set of x values in which the expression is defined.  The denominator cannot be zero, otherwise the expression will undefined.  So we set the denominator equal to zero to find the domain.

 

x³ + x² = 0

 

x²(x + 1) = 0

 

 

Set the factors equal to zero.

 

x² = 0       and       x + 1 = 0

 

x = 0         and      x = -1

 

The domain is all real numbers except for -1 and 0.
