two trains start at same time form X and Y stations and proceed towards each other at 40 km/hr and 50 km/hr .when they met,it found that one train has traveled 60 km more than the other . the distance between the two stations(in km) is

Let t = time it takes for the trains to meet

 

Distance traveled by faster train in  t hours = 50t

Distance traveled by slower  train in t hours = 40t

 

We are given that 50t = 40t + 60

 

                       So, 10t = 60

 

Therefore, the two trains meet when t = 6 hours

 

At that time, the distances traveled by the two trains add up to the total distance between station X and station Y.

 

So, Total distance = 40t + 50t = 90t = 90(6) = 540 km  (ANSWER:  A)
