I have provided a basic outline below that you may use to create your own rough draft:
Thesis statement: Basel and Lyons became design centers in the 16th century due to their new printers, central locations, and academic edge.
1. Supporting Example: Access to printers
- The towns flourished with printers and printing shops
- The printers gave more opportunities to produce a boarder spectrum of new designs and typography (fonts)
2. Supporting Example: Location
- Italian typography ceased to be popular
- Typography boom moved to France (Lyons)
- Lyons was already a center of trade and commerce due to its affiliation with the Silk Road
- Basel had a central location to Germany, Switzerland, and France -most of Europe
- Printing was introduced to Basel by apprentices of Gutenburg
- To this day Basel remains a center for innovative design
