Assume x is the original number.
Then 1/x is the reciprocal.
Translate sentence into an equation: 1/x + 1/(x-5) = 7(1/x)
Solve: subtract the first term (1/x) from both sides to make things easier:
1/(x-5) = 7/x - 1/x
1/(x-5) = 6/x
Cross multiply and solve the rest:
x = 6(x-5)
x = 6x-30
-5x = -30
x = 6
