I need to know how to turn y=4/square root of x into y=kx^r

The square root of x is the same as x^1/2

 

So your original equation, y = 4 / √x, is the same as y = 4 / x^1/2

 

Also, dividing by a power of a number is the same as multiplying by the negative of that power.  So dividing by x^1/2
is the same as multiplying by x^-1/2.

 

So now the original equation becomes:  y = 4x^-1/2
