The square root of x is the same as x1/2
So your original equation, y = 4 / √x, is the same as y = 4 / x1/2
Also, dividing by a power of a number is the same as multiplying by the negative of that power. So dividing by x1/2
is the same as multiplying by x-1/2.
is the same as multiplying by x-1/2.
So now the original equation becomes: y = 4x-1/2
