For a rectangle A = L * W.
Given: A = 288 ft2 and L = 2 * W (Lawn is twice as long as it is wide).
Substitute the givens into the Area formula:
288 = 2 * W * W
A = L * W
288 = 2*W2
Divide by 2 on both sides:
144 = W2
Take the square root of both sides:
12 = W
Given that L = 2 * W => L = 24
P (amount of fencing needed) for a rectangle = 2*L + 2*W
P = 2*(24) + 2*(12) = 72 feet.
Let me know if you need any more help!
