How do I find the reciprocal of x+y/2

I need step by step instructions rather than the answer.

Inverting the equation does not occur by dividing the simplified fraction by 1. 
a/1 = a. That would not invert the fraction.
 
The mathematical equivalent of inverting a fraction is to multiply it
by the inverse square of itself.   (a/b)(b2/a2) = b/a
 
It is, of course, simpler to just say "invert the fraction", meaning turn it over.

Actually, what Gaurav W. meant was "divide 1 by the simplified fraction."
