The P-value is the probability that you would have gotten an outcome as extreme or more extreme than the observed outcome, IF the null hypothesis is true. If the P-value is small (in particular, if it is less than alpha) then this gives evidence to reject the null hypothesis. If the null hypothesis is rejected then the data suggest that the alternative hypothesis is true, i.e. that p is not equal to 0.34.
