What is the time, cost and space that needs to be covered?

The walls and ceiling in your bedroom need to be painted. The bedroom is 14 ft. 3 in. by 16 ft., and the ceiling is 8 ft. high. The paint covers 75 sq. ft. per gallon, and costs $33.50 per gallon. The ceiling will be painted with a bright white ceiling paint that costs $28.50 per gallon but only covers 50 sq. ft. per gallon.

 

There is one window in the room, and it is 3 ft. 4 in. by 5 ft. and will not be painted. The inside of the bedroom door is to be painted the same color as the walls.

 

How much will it cost to paint this room with two coats of paint (on both walls and ceiling). Then determine how much it will actually cost to paint your bedroom.

 

Assuming you can paint 100 sq. ft. per hour, what will be the work time needed to paint your bedroom?

The first thing we need to do is calculate the area of the walls, the first wall is 14.25' by 8' so multiplying those together we get 114 ft sq. but there are two of these so that makes 228 ft sq.

the other wall is 16' by 8' so thats 128 and for both its 256. 

The walls together add up 484 sq ft. And for the second coat well double that to 968. 

We need to subtract out the window, so that leaves about954 sq ft.

If we divide that by 75 for each can of paint we get 12.9 but you'll need to buy 13 cans, and each can cost $33.50 for a total of $435.50.

 

the ceiling is 14.25 by 16 so that 228 sq ft and a second coat will be 456 sq ft.  If we divide that by 50 we get 9.12, so we'll need to buy 10 cans.  At $28.50 per can that $285. 

 

altogether we'll have to pay $720.50

 

To to find the time we'll need to paint we'll need to add the walls and ceiling and that gives us 1410 sq ft, and at 100 sq ft per hour that's 14.1 hours.
