if .5" equals 1' how many feet is 87.5"?

trying to convert inches into actual feet, the scale is .5" = 1ft.

Here's something to make it easier: 

If .5 " = 1'

Then, by doubling: 1 " =  2'

 

I like that conversion easier because I deal with decimals less that way. And now...I do a proportion:

 

(1 inch) / (2 feet)  = (87.5 inches) / (x feet)

Solve for x for your answer

 

Solution is 2(87.5) = 175 feet
