I have 3 different colors. How many combinations of 3 are possible if color and position can be repeated?

I'm not quite sure what to put in this space?

3 x 3 x 3 is too simple That is if the placing is unique What if GGR = GRG = RGG? What if we are talking about different permutations where arrangement of placing is not an issue? What would the formula be?
