Let x and y be the speed of each man respectively
each travels 8 hours
total distance added together Dx+Dy=600km
if x travels at speed 'r'
y travels at speed 'r-5' since person x travels 5km/hr faster
Dx=8r
Dy=8(r-5)=8r-40
Dx+Dy=600
8r+8r-40=600
16r=640
r= 40 km/hr
This is the rate of the fastest man.
The slower man travels 5km/hr slower=35 km/hr
