y = (ax + b) / (cx + d)

 

y(cx + d)= (ax + b)

 

x(yc-a)=b-yd

 

x=(b-yd)/(yc-a)

When we solve for x in a rational function, we only set the numerator equal to zero.  This is because zero divided by any non-zero number is always zero. 

 

 

ax + b = 0
