Admission prices are different for adults and children. The price for adults is $6 more than a child. A family of 2 adults and 3 children pay $72, whats the price for adults and children?

Let the price for a child = x

Let the price for an adult = x + 6

 

The family has 2 adults and 3 kids.  Each member in the family has to pay for a ticket and the total for the family comes out to be $72.  We can write an equation that represents this.

 

3x + 2(x + 6) = 72

 

 

Solve for x. 

 

This will give the price of ticket for one child.  Add 6 to this value to get the price for one adult.
