Find the length of the ladder if the length is 2 ft more than its distance from the wall.

A ladder is resting against a wall. The top of the ladder touches the wall at a height of 6 feet. Find the length of the ladder if the length is two feet more than its distance from the wall.

Arthur could solve this because he has a clear picture in head of this right triangle.  However, some of us have to DRAW THE PICTURE (we are visual learners).  And, once we label the drawing, it is obvious that the ladder is the hypotenuse of a right triangle and we then use the Pythagorean Theorem easily.

As a project manager, I learned that anyone who does not have a blueprint doesn't get to do the project.

Also, once you have sides of 8, 10, and 6, please check to be sure that it is a right triangle.  Often, simple math errors will cause us get the answer wrong!
