Breathing is controlled by the diaphragm. When mammals inhale, the diaphragm contracts. Exhale, the diaphragm expands. Basically, as mammals breathe in and out, the diaphragm dilates. If touch your stomach each time you breathe in and out, you will feel your stomach pulling in and pushing out.
