I'll assume you mean the tin starts out 4/5 full, then 6 bottles are taken out and 4 are put back in, leaving the tin 3/4 full.
First, since 6 bottles are taken out and 4 are put back in, a total of 6 - 4 = 2 bottles are taken out of the tin.
The tin goes from 4/5 full to 3/4 full, so let's figure out exactly what fraction of its oil it lost.
4/5 - 3/4 = 16/20 - 15/20 = 1/20 of its oil
That means that 2 bottles is equal to 1/20 of the tin's total capacity.
Given that, let's figure out how much of the tin's total capacity 1 bottle equals. If 2 bottles is 1/20 of the tin, then 1 bottle is half of that:
(1/2)(1/20) = 1/(2×20) = 1/40
That means that 1 bottle is equal to 1/40 of the tin's total capacity. In other words, the tin holds a total of 40 bottles of oil, since 40 bottles would make it 40(1/40) = 40/40 full.
But, the tin was initially only 4/5 full. So if you want to know how many bottles of oil the tin contained then, you need to know what 4/5 of 40 bottles is:
(4/5)(40) = 160/5 = 32 bottles
When the tin was 4/5 full, it contained 32 bottles of oil.
Hope this makes sense!
