I think, you have to factor it. It is equal to

                           x² +x -6 = (x-2)(x+3)

Then if you have to solve the equation, just put (x-2)(x+3) = 0. It gives you two solutions

                          x =2   (after x-2 =0) and

                          x=-3   (aftyer x+3 =0)
